The last thing you want to do when you’re studying for a job is be discouraged by an internship or a job interview that seems too good to be true.
But as the computer science field matures and more and more companies are making it easier to hire and train computer science graduates, you might want to rethink how you’re evaluating resumes.
“Computer science is the new engineering,” said Richard H. Muehlhauser, dean of the MIT Computer Science Graduate School and a pioneer in the field.
“It’s becoming more of a career path, rather than just a technical skill.”
Here are a few reasons why: • The technology is changing The number of computer science jobs available on the market is growing at an impressive rate.
The median salary for computer science grads was $68,000 in 2016, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
This year, the median salary is projected to be $70,000, according the BLS.
The average salary for the next 10 years will be $80,000.
And the average wage for computer scientists in the U: $89,000 by 2022.
“The growth in the number of students entering computer science programs is not slowing,” said Dr. H.V. Singh, dean for research and engineering at the MIT Sloan School of Management.
“In fact, the number is accelerating.”
The number has increased more than 100% in just three years.
• The number is growing in popularity Computer science is a popular field because it is an increasingly important area of study.
According to the latest figures from the Computing Association of America, the global computer science population is expected to grow by almost 60% by 2032.
It will take decades for the computer industry to catch up.
Computer science graduates are among the most desirable students in the country.
They have a job offer that can pay more than a master’s degree in computer science, according in an industry survey from the Association of Computing Machinery.
Computer scientists also make more money than those with a degree in business administration or social work.
“What’s the most important skill that a computer scientist needs?” asked H.M. Schulte, president of the Computer Science Institute, which supports research in computer and information science.
“This is not about having an intellectual property portfolio, but a skill set, and that’s what computer science is.”
Computer science grad students are often able to find work that pays a little more than an MBA or Ph.
D. in many fields.
“I’ve seen it in the industry where they want to pay you a $100,000 salary and you’re just a computer technician,” said Chris Kline, director of research for IT Consulting and Consulting Services in Austin, Texas.
Kline said his firm has had computer scientists work for $80 an hour.
“They’re not doing a lot of the real work.
They’re just there.”
Computer scientists who are willing to work harder can earn higher salaries than computer analysts.
“When you look at how people earn, they’re not just looking at a salary,” said Kline.
“There’s an entire market out there.”
• The field is growing fast The number and diversity of computer scientists are growing fast.
According the Association for Computing Machineries, computer scientists made up 11.9% of the computing workforce in 2016.
They will soon surpass computer engineers in the United States.
By 2024, there will be about 2.3 million computer scientists working in the computing industry.
And they will be the fastest growing profession in the nation.
In fact, by 2024, they will account for 16% of all jobs in the computer field.
A study from the Council on Contemporary Asian American Studies at Arizona State University found that computer science was a “critical component of a college education for students of color.”
And while there are no statistics for computer engineers, the numbers for computer professionals are increasing.
Computer programmers and programmers are making up 12% of engineering students at universities, the survey showed.
In 2018, they made up 8.5% of computer engineering graduates.
Computer systems engineering students make up about 10% of those enrolled in computer engineering.
And there are computer scientists who have applied for top tech jobs in Silicon Valley, the New York Times reported.
Computer engineering grads are also becoming more diverse.
“As computer science gets more popular and the technology gets more advanced, the opportunity for diversity has increased,” said Kevin Smith, executive director of the Computing Leadership Institute.
“We have a huge pool of candidates who are incredibly qualified for these positions.”
Smith also pointed out that computer scientists tend to be more experienced and have a better grasp of software and data engineering than most engineers.
• Computer scientists can make a lot more than you think Computer scientists often have to make decisions about the future of the computer business.
“If you’re going to hire people, you need to know how to do it,”
